The day started at Ipsilou where it was sunny though at this height very windy.  Hence I stayed in the relative shelter of the southern track.

A singing Cinereous Bunting was an early find and I could hear Hoopoe in the distance. There seemed a fair number of Wood Warblers in the oaks, and although none sang the calls were often heard.

On the walk back down a Golden Oriole flew into an oak where it was seen briefly. A Black-eared Wheatear then showed well and a Woodlark was in glorious song-flight.

Then onto the coastal plain of Faneromeni with its many small fields. Black-headed Buntings were hard to miss and sang incessantly. A pair of Cirl Bunting were also found, though more secretive and breeding locally no doubt.

Warblers generally stayed low in the wind though an Eastern Olivaceous was a first for the trip.

The habitat is ideal for shrikes, with two Woodchat and four Red-backed for the day, three of the latter species being males.
